VanEss Expressions is a small Minneapolis Minnesota family business creating original, unique & unusual handcrafted wood gifts, home decor, clocks and furniture.
Not your typical furniture store ~ There is nothing typical or ordinary about VanEss Expressions. Each piece is our own original design - individually and personally handcrafted, one piece at a time ~ a unique, one-of-a-kind wood work of art.
Every step - from the wood selection, to crafting the piece, to the last coat of varnish - is done by us. We use only the highest quality materials. We personally examine the wood to best show the unique grain for the piece being made. It is the details that make a piece special, and we are all about the details.

Hand-Turned Wood Vases & Wood Bowls ~ Our unusual wood vases & bowls come in a variety of shapes, sizes and woods. Each is individually turned from either solid stock or glued up pieces - thus each piece is truly one-of-a-kind. Some are made specifically for dried or silk flowers, some are functional containers, and others are purely decorative.
Multi-Wood Bowls & Vases ~ Many of our pieces look as good on the inside as they do on the outside, and make wonderful decorative pieces which beg to be touched.
Wonderful Wall Decor ~ Unique wood decor can dress up your walls, provide a focal point, or maybe beautifully hide a problem area. Clocks, sconces, mirrors & picture displays.
Two of our hand-etched oversized diamond sconces are perfect to bracket a doorway, but a group of three really makes a wall stand out. Or how about a wall clock? Want a large focal point, or a small decorative clock to fit in a tight spot - we make clocks of all sizes, for all needs.
Unique, Handcrafted & Custom Furniture ~ We make a variety of accent & occasional tables, floor mirrors and other furniture items - but these items are not available for shipment thru the website. Most of our larger items are custom pieces, and the ones shown are examples of what can be ordered. If you live in, or are visiting the Minneapolis area - please contact us regarding these items.

VanEss Expressions is all about Wood
All of our pieces are 100% solid wood ~ no plywood or laminates. We typically use domestic hardwoods such as Ash, Oak, Maple and Walnut, but do use some more exotic woods as accent pieces and have a large variety of other woods available by special request. We have a many different wood stains and dyes in stock to match your current decor or give a splash of color, without covering up the grain; and we can special order others. We do not paint wood.
VanEss Expressions is all about Quality
Every peice we make is hand-sanded to a super-smooth finish, but we go that extra step of applying felt to the base of each piece intended to sit on your fine furniture.
All of our wall accent pieces are made to hang using a key-hole design - which is much more secure and flexible than zig-zag or other mechanical fastening systems.
We apply multiple coats of an extremely hard interior polyurethane varnish to give a durable, long lasting and easy-to-care-for finish.

We personally examine each piece of lumber to determine the best shape to showcase its unique grain, but to also give the very least waste. From the original design, to the selection of wood, to the shaping of the piece, to the last coat of varnish ~ each item is individually & personally handcrafted by us, one piece at a time. It is our name on, and our reputation behind each piece.
We are the ones our customers talk to ~ for general purchases, that unique custom wood item, or (heaven forbid) a complaint. We stand behind our work and work with our customers to make things right. Most of our sales are from repeat business or referrals ~ and that's the way we like it.
